Maroubra perrisata

Sawtooth pipefish Maroubra perserrata: This species is not well represented in museum collections from South Australia. However it has been recorded from northern NSW to southern WA. This and anecdotal evidence from divers and verifying photographs in South Australia suggest this species is common. Inhabits crevices often sheltering behind sea urchins and is consequently easy to observe but difficult to capture.

For the last 18 months or so Paul Macdonald has been finding a small colony of pipefish in the same little grotto on the inside of Pt Noarlunga reef. "They are only found at night and are in the rock, not weed. I haven't found them in any of my books. They are very thin and are about 6cm long"
