“Described from
four examples from Spencer and St. Vincent Gulfs, the longest being 214 mm in
length. The type was dredged in Spencer Gulf by Sir Joseph Verco and is
“completely bleached”.: the colour description and the illustration are made
from a specimen collected in August, 1920, at Glenelg by Messrs. Zietz and
Hale” (Waite and Hale, 1908).
Range: Recorded in southern
Australasia from the region of
Melbourne, Victoria, to Spencers Gulf, South Australia, and from there westward
to south-west Western Australia (Kuiter 2000). Victoria and South Australia
(Scott et al., 1974), Hab. South Australia (Waite and Hale 1908).
Distribution: In bays to 10 m.
Habitat: Sparse sea-grasses near tidal channels in large
estuaries (Kuiter 2000).
Length; 25 cm (Kuiter 2000), 22 cm (Scott et al., 1974), 214
mm (Waite and Hale 1908).
Reproduction:
Moves into breeding areas in September (Kuiter 2000). Eggs brooded in pouch
immediately behind the anal fin (pers obs).
Aquarium care:
Adapts well to aquariums and will reproduce with the resultant young easy to
raise.
Reproduction: Liss caud 83.5
mm, bpr 12, egg dia 1.3, bp 16.7mm, eggs paired 2 layers except ventral on layer
3 egg rows.; also 39, 32.
Range: Records
from the region of Melbourne, Victoria, Spencers Gulf, South Australia,
and from the
southwest Western Australia.
Distribution: In
bays to 10m seeming to prefer weed and sandy areas to seagrass.
Reproduction: Eggs brooded in pouch immediately behind the anal fin.
