Graham Short is a marine and molecular biologist, underwater photographer and explorer.  Graham was born in the landlocked Midwestern U.S. and selectively bred aquarium fish starting at age thirteen.  His keen interest in marine life led to an undergraduate degree in marine biology from Boston University followed by a research stint at the highly respected Woods Hole Marine Institute.

Vowing to never be far from the sea, Graham moved to Hawaii to study molecular biology at the Cancer Research Institute at the University of Hawaii.  Graham currently explores the seas of the world either from his land base in California or from his 60 foot yacht Mustang which seasons between the temperate zones of Australia and New Zealand or the South Pacific island groups.

Graham is currently affiliated with the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco with a research focus on the phylogeny of syngnathids and also with the Hopkins Marine Station of Stanford University with a research focus on the phylogeny of parasitic copepods.

Graham’s passion for scuba diving and underwater photography began with certification in Sydney Harbour.  Cruising Mustang has allowed him to explore and have access to remote and beautiful dive spots off the east coast of Australia and throughout the South Pacific. He is interested in temperate reef ecology with an emphasis on fish species, specifically those found in NSW, SA, and Tasmania. His favorite Australian dive spots are found at Fish Rocks, in Rapid Bay, Edithburgh, Jervis Bay, and in Bicheno.
